George Takei and JJ Abrams paid tribute to the late “Star Trek” actress Nichelle Nichols, who died Saturday at the age of 89.

Nichols has played Enterprise crew member Nyota Uhura in the series and several Trek films.

Abrams, who directed the reboots of 2009’s “Star Trek” and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, described Nichols as “a wonderful woman in a fantastic role.”
