Do North Coworking announces the inaugural batch of Forest Products Accelerator

Vermont Business Magazine Do North Coworking and Northern Vermont University have announced the first participants in the Forest Products Accelerator Program. Seven companies from across the Northeast will participate in this four-month program that opens to start-ups and seed companies that are commercializing new and improved products, services, and technologies in the forestry industry.

“We are excited about the incredible group of companies participating in our first batch of Forest Products Accelerator and for Vermont to play a role in the future of forest innovation,” said Jared Reynolds, Director of Do North Coworking and Forest Products Accelerator. . “These companies are addressing some of the industry’s most pressing challenges by developing new solutions for technology, energy, fuels, packaging and sustainable products.”

The program focuses on companies that develop products that use low-quality wood and by-products, technology that improves forestry operations, or wood-based fuels and energy systems.

It provides participating companies with a rigorous business approach to developing the business case, business model, and go-to-market plan, and networking with industry experts, customers and suppliers.

The Accelerator program began August 1, and participants participate in multi-day virtual and in-person workshops, webinars and panel discussions, and receive training throughout the program. The Forest Products Accelerator was made possible with support from the Northern Border Regional Commission and the Vermont Northeast Development Association.

The goal of the accelerator is to support forest-focused companies to transform new technology into sustainable and impactful businesses. The participating companies focus on new types of wood pellets, biochar, biomass energy, technology, packaging and sustainable products. The following companies participate in the current group of Forest Products Accelerator.

• Applied Biorefinery Sciences (New York) is developing a water-based biorefining technology using hot water extraction to improve the production of biomass fuel pellets, pulps, products and chemicals.
• Farm to Flame (Penn) is developing a system to provide clean, affordable renewable electricity to medium and large commercial operations using smokeless and odorless biomass generators.
• Sylvacurl (Vermont) produces biodegradable and biodegradable packaging made from wood pulp that has a low environmental impact.
• Forestopia (Massachusetts) is developing a platform to expand market opportunities for tree crops and sustainable tree products.
• Forward Forestry (New Hampshire) is building a platform that connects loggers with lumber mills that will purchase their logs, and coordinate the sale of this lumber.
• Gaia AI (Massachusetts) is developing an AI-based platform for forest management that addresses the challenges of carbon accounting and verification.
• Green State Biochar (Vermont) is developing biochar from available wood waste that can be used in a myriad of applications including energy production and water purification.
